Casual Competence and Relaxed Professionalism…
We’ve Got Your Back
Matthew Hanshaw named his company ARK Wealth Management after his family, using the initials of his children’s first names: Allie, Ryan and Katie. ARK provides Matt with flexibility to spend more time with his family, while at the same time helping other families with their investments. When not working, Matt is at his children’s sports and activities. “My personal life looks more like a taxi service than anything else.”
He graduated from Penn State with a Psychology degree. He began working in the financial planning field in 1993, and began working independently in 1995. He uses a combination of understanding, listening, and technical industry knowledge when working with clients. This fusion provides him with astute financial insights that he uses to make clients aware of obstacles and challenges before they arise.
Matt tends to work with two types of clients. The first group includes women who are the financial head of their household, or the family CFO. They might find themselves in this situation because of divorce, the recent illness of their spouse, or the spouse’s death.
The second group is made up of individuals who have had a change in their employment, or have been job displaced because of retirement, relocation or being downsized.
When working with clients, Matt prefers to be paid through a fee-based structure. This means that he does not receive all of his compensation up-front. Rather, he is paid for servicing his clients over a long-term. To that end, he works hard to build lasting relationships with his clients that are mutually beneficial.
Matt is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), a National Social Security Adviser™ (NSSA®) and holds multiple financial certifications. He is a volunteer youth baseball coach, and works with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, current serving as treasurer, board of trustees member, and executive committee member to the LLS Central PA Chapter, and has served the Big Brothers / Big Sisters of America.
He started ARK Wealth Management in 2013 to have a sincere impact on the lives of his clients. Matt wants to do more than just retirement planning. He wants to be there for them over the long haul, for the rest of their lives.
In his opinion, the highest compliment a client could pay him is to say, “Matt has my back.”
